A rare total lunar eclipse, widely known as a "blood moon," lit up the skies over the UK on the night of September 7, 2025. The footage, filmed by Dave Planes (@plumber22), shows the moon partially cloaked in Earth’s shadow, glowing with a reddish hue caused by Rayleigh scattering, where blue light is dispersed and only red light illuminates the lunar surface.

The celestial event reached its peak around 7:33 PM, according to the Met Office, marking the first occurrence of its kind in the UK since 2022. While the eclipse was visible across Asia, Australia, and parts of Africa, it was not seen in North or South America.

With the next total lunar eclipse not expected until August 28, 2026, this spectacle drew significant public and media attention, underscoring the fascination and cultural significance often associated with blood moons.
