Worker killed and two others injured in asphalt oil explosion
A worker was killed and two others seriously injured in an explosion at an asphalt plant in Thailand.
The blast erupted while personnel were still inside the facility operated by Ekkapop Construction in Lamphun, on September 14.
Footage shows a black smoke column billowing from the burning plant. A backhoe and a six-wheel truck were also damaged in the inferno.
Firefighters rushed to the scene and spent more than an hour bringing the blaze under control.
Natthawut Sanglamung, 37, was found burned to death, while Monthian Sribunruang, 46, and Chumphon Jommanee, 70, both suffered serious burns across their bodies.
The survivors were rushed to Ban Hong Hospital in critical condition.
Police Major Jirasak Saksom of the Ban Hong Police Station said the explosion was believed to have been caused by fire igniting an oil tank in the building.
He said: 'The estimated cost of the damage is currently being assessed. Officials are investigating the cause of the damage and questioning the workers.'
