China: 2025 Legislators Forum for Friendly Exchanges concludes with landmark declaration
The 2025 Legislators Forum for Friendly Exchanges concluded on Sunday in Urumqi, capital of northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, with the Urumqi Declaration issued at the event calling on legislative bodies worldwide to deepen friendly exchanges. According to the declaration, the participants jointly called for an equal and orderly multipolar world and a universally beneficial and inclusive economic globalization by upholding the basic principles of international law. The forum opened on September 10, with the theme "Building Global Partnerships for Sustainable Development." The event brought together 63 legislators from over 50 countries and international organizations across five continents, alongside Chinese provincial-level congressional leaders and deputies. The event featured discussions on topics such as high-quality Belt and Road cooperation, ecological conservation and green development, regional ethnic autonomy and human rights protection, as well as protection of ethnic minority cultures, ethnic unity and common development. "Dialogue with Legislators of EU Countries" and "Global South Legislators Dialogue" were also held at the forum. During the event, participants took a tour across Xinjiang, where they visited Urumqi, Changji, Kashgar, Kizilsu, Aksu, Ili, and other locations. The study tour aimed to deepen understanding of Xinjiang's development, share governance experiences, build consensus, and enhance dialogue and cooperation. The forum was initiated by the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries in 2023. It seeks to strengthen friendly ties among parliamentarians worldwide, promote international parliamentary collaboration, foster people-to-people friendships, safeguard world peace, and advance shared development.
