Sweden: Hundreds march in Sweden to protest Gaza genocide
SHOTLIST: STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN (SEPTEMBER 20, 2025) (ANADOLU - ACCESS ALL) 1. VARIOUS OF PROTESTERS MARCHING, CHANTING SLOGANS, HOLDING BANNERS AND PALESTINIAN FLAGS, PLAYING DRUMS, AND CARRYING MOCK BODIES WRAPPED IN SHROUDS TO SYMBOLIZE PALESTINIANS KILLED BY ISRAEL 2. SWEDISH COLUMNIST JAN GUILLOU SPEAKING TO REPORTER STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN - SEPTEMBER 20, 2025: Hundreds of people rallied in Stockholm on Saturday, Sept. 20, to protest Israel’s ongoing genocide in Gaza and the forced displacement of Palestinians. The demonstrators gathered in the Odenplan district and marched through the streets, carrying placards with messages such as “End the Genocide Now,” and chanting slogans including “This is not a war, it’s genocide,” “Free Palestine,” “Killer Israel,” and “Resistance, freedom, justice, and reconstruction,” while calling on the international community to halt the genocide in the besieged enclave. Some protesters carried mock bodies wrapped in shrouds to symbolize Palestinians killed by Israel. The protest, organized by multiple civil society groups, demanded an arms embargo on Israel, a boycott of Israeli companies, and the severing of all ties with the Israeli state. Jan Guillou, a columnist for Sweden’s largest newspaper Aftonbladet, who attended the demonstration, told Anadolu that Israel is committing genocide against Palestinians. Noting that support for Palestinians has grown compared to previous years, Guillou said: “We have gathered here because we must speak the truth. What is happening in Palestine is genocide. Everyone can see it, yet very few in Sweden dare to acknowledge it. We need to pressure our government to openly recognize the genocide.” Guillou highlighted the global divide over the Palestinian issue: “The world is not silent, but it is divided. The United States stands with Israel. Sweden seems to be moving toward becoming a future ally. Yet countries like Norway, Ireland, and especially Türkiye are not turning a blind eye—they support Palestine. The world is split. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has lost credibility internationally and destroyed many bridges, yet he acts as if unstoppable because he has a single goal: realizing the Zionist dream and destroying Palestine.” Since Oct. 7, 2023, Israel has been carrying out a genocide in Gaza which has so far killed over 65,200 Palestinians, most of them women and children. The onslaught has displaced hundreds of thousands alongside a blockade on humanitarian aid that has claimed the lives of at least 442 Palestinians, including 147 children. On Tuesday, the UN Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the Occupied Palestinian Territory confirmed that Israel has committed genocide in Gaza.
