Witnesses said Israeli forces struck the residential building without issuing evacuation warnings, leaving families buried beneath the debris. Fires broke out in the wreckage, sending thick smoke over the neighborhood as residents searched desperately for missing relatives. With Gaza under blockade, emergency crews lack heavy equipment to conduct proper rescue operations, and the fate of those trapped remains unknown. Israel continues a brutal offensive in Gaza since Oct. 7, 2023, which has so far killed more than 65,300 Palestinians, most of them women and children. The military campaign has devastated the enclave and forced the population into famine. Last November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. Israel faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice over its war on the enclave, while UN investigators concluded last Tuesday that Israel is committing genocide in Gaza.
