Storyline: Advanced tech transforms tomato industry in Xinjiang [Voice_over] In northwest China's Xinjiang region, tomatoes are the name of the game. Thanks to long hours of sunlight and large variants in day to night temperatures, it's the optimal place to cultivate the fruit. Last year the region dedicated more than 80,000 hectares to tomato growing, with the entire tomato processing industrial chain now fully mechanized. On this day, harvesting machines roar back and forth along rows of tomato crops in Yanqi County. A farmer explains how the equipment helps sort ripe tomatoes. [Sound_bite] Xu Weizhen, tomato farmer: "There is a specialized laser selection device inside the harvester, which can identify whether a tomato is green or red. If the tomato does not meet the standards, it will be ejected." [Voice_over] The region is home to over 200 companies producing a wide range of tomato products, including sauces, juice, seed oil, and lycopene- a powerful tomato antioxidant used in skin care products. Official data shows that tomato products from Xinjiang are exported to more than 70 countries and regions around the world. [Restrictions : No access Chinese mainland]
