The typhoon, the country’s deadliest storm this year, made landfall Monday in north-central Ha Tinh province, bringing 26-foot waves, strong winds, and nearly 12 inches of rain, damaging more than 135,000 homes and injuring 105 people. Authorities evacuated nearly 30,000 residents ahead of the storm, and hundreds of flights were canceled. Flooding also destroyed 25,500 hectares (63,000 acres) of rice and crops and washed away more than 8,700 hectares (21,500 acres) of aquaculture. Seventeen of the missing are fishermen caught in rough waves off Quang Tri province. Bualoi, also called Storm No. 10, moved quickly across the East Sea, traveling more than 1,000 kilometers (621 miles) in about two days, hitting northern and central regions.
