British tourist, 23, remanded in custody following 'attempted smuggling of 9kg of meth' in Thailand
The British tourist who was allegedly caught with 9kg of crystal meth at a hotel in Thailand appeared in court this morning.
George Wilson, 23, from High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, was arrested at Le Fenix Sukhumvit Hotel in Bangkok on Tuesday evening before being charged with running category one drugs.
He was driven to the Bangkok South Criminal Court, seen in the video, and briefly appeared without saying anything for a processing hearing.
George will now be held for up to 84 days at the Bangkok Remand Prison while prosecutors prepare evidence and interrogate George over his connection with the suspected drug smuggling network.
A new court date is yet to be set.
Police Captain Noppapha Thongbo, the investigator at Lumpini Police Station, said: 'The on-duty officer accompanied the suspect to court this morning. He did not speak in the van or at the court.
'He has been calm and polite the whole time he has been at the police station. He was sitting in his cell with his head in his hands for most of the first night.
'He will be held in custody for the maximum of 84 days under the legal detention framework.
'At this time, we still have no information about which country the drugs were destined for. But the prosecuting lawyers will seek to find out that information.
'Police officers are handing all of the evidence to prosecutors and they will take over the case. Then it is up to them how it proceeds.'
