VARIOUS OF DEMONSTRATORS CARRYING PALESTINIAN FLAGS, BANNERS / DEMONSTRATORS CHANTING SLOGANS / POLICE TAKING SECURITY MEASURESATHENS, GREECE - OCT. 2, 2025: Demonstrators gathered Thursday in front of the Foreign Ministry in Athens to protest Israel’s seizure of the Global Sumud Flotilla in international waters, where dozens of activists, including 27 Greek nationals, were unlawfully detained. A statement posted on the US social media company, Facebook, by the March To Gaza Greece group, said a delegation representing the protesters trying to reach the Gaza Strip to break an 18-year blockade, met Deputy Foreign Minister Alexandra Papadopoulou to seek information on the incident and raise concerns about the situation of the detained Greek nationals. The delegation criticized the Greek government’s stance, accusing it of failing to issue “an independent and determined diplomatic response” due to its military cooperation with Israel. It also expressed concern that the detainees would be pressured to sign a declaration admitting to alleged charges. “If they sign this document, they will be immediately deported from the country. However, if they refuse to sign, legal proceedings will be initiated against them and their unlawful detention will be extended,” said the statement.
