VARIOUS OF PROTESTERS CHANTING SLOGANS IN FRONT OF SACRED HEART CATHEDRALSARAJEVO, BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA - OCT. 5: Demonstrators marched in the streets of the Bosnian capital, Sarajevo, on Sunday, Oct. 5, to show solidarity with the Global Sumud Flotilla and urged an end to Israel’s onslaught on Gaza. Gathering at the Sebilj Fountain in Bascarsija, protesters waved Palestinian flags and carried signs reading “Stop the Genocide” and “Freedom for Gaza” as they moved through Ferhadija Street. The march ended outside the Sacred Heart Cathedral, where demonstrators staged a symbolic scene featuring bound and silenced figures in keffiyehs, denouncing Israel’s detention of flotilla activists and ongoing actions in Gaza. Israeli naval forces attacked and seized vessels of the Global Sumud Flotilla starting Oct. 1 and detained more than 400 activists from over 50 countries. The flotilla had been attempting to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza and challenge Israel’s blockade of the enclave. Over 67,000 Palestinians have been killed in Israel’s genocidal war on the Gaza Strip since October 2023. The Israeli army resumed its attacks on the Gaza Strip on March 18 and has since killed 13,420 people and injured 57,124 others, shattering a ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement that took hold in January. Last November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its war on the enclave.
