Storyline: Thousands of demonstrators gathered outside the Israeli Embassy in Athens on Wednesday to protest against Israel's interception of a flotilla carrying humanitarian aid to Gaza. The protesters urged the Greek government to condemn Israel's actions, and called for the immediate release of all individuals detained by Israel. Among the crowd, Ntina invoked the political slogan "from the river to the sea," alluding to the territory between the Jordan River and the Mediterranean Sea - historically known as Palestine - to express her solidarity with Palestine. "We demand their release. We also demand that the Greek state intervene immediately to ensure their return, and to sever all economic, diplomatic, political, and cultural ties with the murderous state, as well as to close the embassy of the Zionist killers. That is why we are demonstrating here outside the embassy. Freedom for Palestine, from the river to the sea. From the river to the sea, a free Palestine," said Ntina. Anna, another protester, accused Israel of destroying the peaceful intent behind the flotilla. "This flotilla was clearly an act of solidarity, clearly an act of peace, with no other benefit or interest. People risked their safety, their very existence and achieved the unthinkable: getting so close to Gaza and sending a powerful message that societies and people stand on the side of justice. Societies and people know that this state is clearly a murderer. This must stop. We will not tolerate it any longer. No participation in the genocide, no cooperation with the murderous state. Here and now, we want Palestine to prevail," said Anna. Several vessels of the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) were stopped in the Mediterranean Sea as they approached Gaza's shores, with passengers transferred to an Israeli port, the Israeli Foreign Ministry said Wednesday night. The flotilla, comprising around 50 vessels and more than 500 volunteers from over 40 countries, seeks to challenge Israel's naval blockade and deliver food and medical supplies to Palestinians. Israel has maintained a naval blockade on Gaza since 2007, following Hamas' takeover of the enclave. Restrictions were further tightened after Hamas' cross-border assault into southern Israel in October 2023. Shotlist: Athens, Greece - Oct 1, 2025: 1.
