According to a statement posted on social media by resident Madison Desrochers, the crash left her with nothing after a suspected drunk driver, reportedly three times over the legal limit, plowed into her apartment at more than 50 miles per hour, according to the resident. Desrochers said a burst water pipe later flooded what remained of her home. Emergency crews responded to the crash around 1:48 a.m. in the 1900 block of Gage Street, according to initial reports. The impact caused significant structural damage to the residence. The driver, described as a man wearing a yellow shirt, was detained at the scene. Authorities have not confirmed whether the crash was DUI-related. No transports were reported, and the extent of injuries remains unclear. The Kern County Sheriff’s Office, California Highway Patrol, and Bakersfield Fire Department responded.
