Storyline: Rescuers in China's southernmost province of Hainan on Sunday successfully prevented a possible collision between two cargo ships and a bridge amidst powerful winds on a local river brought by Typhoon Matmo. In Haikou, the capital city of Hainan, at around 11:00, the two cargo ships taking shelter on the Haidian River drifted due to insufficient anchor hold, raising the risk of a collision with a bridge on the river. When the rescuers reached the scene, the cargo ships had already drifted over 200 meters from their original anchor points and were drawing closer and closer to the bridge. Firefighters tried to use drones and remote-controlled robots to deliver cables, but it was too difficult to do so due to the tough conditions. "We've brought our equipment over, but the waves are very strong, making it impossible for the robot to operate properly in the water," said Lin Fuqiang, one of the rescuers. After assessing the situation, the rescue team decided to send firefighters into the water to pull up ropes and secure the ships. After two failed attempts to board the ships, the situation became even more critical as one of the ships was just less than 20 meters away from the bridge. Fishermen living nearby then rushed to help. "We came to help. We don't know the shipowner, and we're just worried about it hitting the bridge. We haven't really thought about anything else," fisherman Zhang Guoyou said. With the joint efforts of many people, the two cargo ships were ultimately secured in a safe zone, and those involved were evacuated to safety.
