This is the heartwarming moment a youngster burst into tears after receiving a new smartphone from his cousin.

Gian Carlo Asuncion thought he was simply going to have a meal with his family at a restaurant when the surprise gift was presented to him in Cabanatuan City, the Philippines.

Footage shows Gian Carlo being handed a red paper bag with a box inside. He smiled thinking it was a playful prank, but when he looked inside, he became emotional.

Gian Carlo bowed his head to hide his tears and wiped his face before opening the box to find a phone inside.

His cousin Aileen Rose Jumamil said: 'The moment we surprised our cousin with a brand-new phone was absolutely priceless and deeply moving.

'Handing him that box and watching his face shift from confusion to realisation, and finally seeing the tears well up as he understood what he was holding, was an unforgettable experience.'
