Jordan: 13th group of Gaza child patients arrives in Jordan
Storyline: A group of 12 sick children from the Gaza Strip arrived in Jordan on Wednesday for medical treatment, marking the 13th such evacuation under a humanitarian medical corridor initiative launched earlier this year. The children, accompanied by 38 family members and others, will receive professional medical care at local public and private hospitals. The patients and their families will be sent back to Gaza once their medical treatment is complete, making space for subsequent groups of children in need of care. "Gaza's medical system is completely broken. Even after the ceasefire, medicine supply remains extremely scarce. My child's treatment requires a medication called cytosine, but it's completely unavailable in Gaza, so he's never been able to take it. Many medicines remain completely out of stock in Gaza," said Sabreen Zuhd, a mother of a child patient. The "Jordan Gaza Medical Corridor" initiative was announced by King Abdullah II in February, who said the country's ready to receive up to 2,000 Palestinian children from Gaza for treatment. Since the initiative was launched in March, a total of 232 Gazan children, along with their 567 family members, have been transferred to Jordan via land and air routes. Jordan said it will continue to cooperate with regional and international partners to expand humanitarian assistance and help the people of Gaza gradually walk out of the shadow of war.
