A cyclist "paid the price" for not wearing a helmet when he flipped over his bike's handlebars and split his head open while cycling on the pavement "without a front light"."

The young man careered into a power box on the street in Stafford, Staffordshire, last Tuesday (20) at around 7pm.

Footage shows a man and a woman stopping to help the cyclist, who also had no front light, after he fell face down onto the pavement.

Justin Livermore was away from home at the time but watched the footage on his security camera.

The 51-year-old said the cyclist "in his early 20s" "paid the price" for not wearing a helmet when he "cut his head"."

He said: "There was blood. I believe his parents took him to A&E. He was probably in his early 20s."

"If he had a helmet on, at least it would have stopped him from cutting his head."

Justin, whose wife witnessed the crash, said there was a problem with irresponsible cycling in the area, adding: "You rarely see people with lights or helmets on around here."
