Massive king cobra snake caught in terrified grandmother's living room in Thailand
A massive king cobra snake was caught in a terrified grandmother's living room in Thailand.
The 6ft-long venomous serpent was found slithering on the tiled-floor room by the house owner's pet cat in Ang Thong province on December 8.
The old woman said she thought it was an ordinary snake and used a stick to push it out of the house but it spread its hood.
Rescuers were called to the scene instead while the resident waited outside of her house with her pet cat.
The old woman Tuwanit Chareonsan, 45, said: ‘I didn't know what kind of snake it was. I tried to handle it myself but then it became angry and tried to attack me.
‘I ran outside of the house after it lunged at me and failed. I am relieved the rescuers arrived immediately.'
Snake wrangler Ratha Tapianthong and her team arrived at the house and calmed the snake down before catching it with bare hands. The expert tucked the snake inside a sack to be released into the wild.
The house owner thanked the rescuers and said: ‘I am relieved my cat and I wasn't hurt. I am also happy that the snake was taken out of my house.'
Researchers found that 7,000 people are treated for snake bites each year in Thailand. Suchai Suteparuk from the Division of Toxicology at Chulalongkorn University reported that 30 of those die, with cobras bieng the biggest killed.
