Hindu devotees gathered along the Ganges River for a ritual bathing and sun worship festival in India.

Thousands of worshippers converged on Bodhgaya, Bihar, on October 27 to make offerings as part of the traditional Chhath Puja celebration.

Footage shows devotees dressed in colourful attire standing in the river and carrying baskets filled with offerings for the Sun God, Surya.

They were also seen praying, applying henna, and performing traditional rituals.

Chhath Puja is a four-day Hindu festival dedicated to Surya and his consort Usha. It is observed mainly in the Indian states of Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, and Jharkhand, as well as in Nepal.

The festival involves fasting, ritual bathing, and making offerings of fruits, grains, and other sacred items to the rising and setting sun to express gratitude and seek blessings for prosperity and well-being.

Earlier this year, millions had gathered at the Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, for a holy dip when disorder broke out around 1:30 am local time. Police confirmed that at least 30 devotees were killed and 60 others were injured.
