Chinese President Xi Jinping joined leaders of other APEC economies in Gyeongju, the Republic of Korea (ROK) on Friday and Saturday, calling for joint efforts to forge a sustainable and brighter future. On Friday, Xi attended the first session of the 32nd APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting, and delivered a speech titled "Building an Inclusive Open Asia-Pacific Economy for All". In the speech, the Chinese president put forward a five-point proposal for promoting a universally beneficial and inclusive economic globalization and building an Asia-Pacific community. Firstly, Xi called for joint efforts to safeguard the multilateral trading system. Secondly, he called for building an open economic environment in the region. Thirdly, Xi called on APEC members to work together to keep industrial and supply chains stable and unclogged. Fourthly, he called for advancing the digital and green transformation of trade. Fifthly, Xi urged joint efforts to promote universally beneficial and inclusive development. Also on Friday, Xi delivered a written speech at the APEC CEO Summit under the title "Putting the Asia Pacific at the Forefront of the Joint Endeavor for World Development and Prosperity." He highlighted China's 15th Five-Year Plan for national socioeconomic development in the 2026-2030 period, saying that China can provide the global business community with more growth opportunities, a good business environment, a vast platform for innovation, and conditions for green growth. Later on Friday, Xi held a series of bilateral meetings with foreign leaders on the sidelines of the APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting. In his meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, Xi said that China is ready to work with Canada to bring China-Canada relations back to the right track of healthy, stable and sustainable development at an early date for the better benefits of the two peoples. He urged efforts from both countries to foster objective and rational perceptions of each other, view each other correctly, and advance the development of bilateral relations from the perspective of the common and long-term interests of the two countries. While meeting with Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, Xi said that China is ready to strengthen the synergy of development strategies with Thailand and share its development experience in the new era. He urged efforts from both sides to accelerate the development of the China-Thailand railway, enhance cooperation in agricultural product trade, green economy, digital innovation and other areas, and ensure that the peoples of both countries reap more tangible benefits. In the meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi at her request, Xi said that China is ready to work with Japan to build constructive and stable bilateral relations that meet the requirements of the new era. He expressed the hope that Japan's new cabinet would establish a correct understanding of China, value the efforts of the older generation of statesmen and various sectors in both countries who have contributed to the development of China-Japan relations, and adhere to the broad direction of peace, friendship and cooperation between the two nations. On Friday evening, Xi attended a welcome dinner banquet that ROK President Lee Jae-myung hosted for the APEC leaders. On Saturday, Xi delivered a speech titled "Jointly Forging a Sustainable and Brighter Future" at the second session of the 32nd APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting. He said that Asia Pacific economies must enhance mutually beneficial cooperation, make good use of new opportunities, stand up to new challenges, and forge a sustainable and brighter future together. Xi made a three-point proposal in the speech. Firstly, he urged Asia-Pacific economies to further unleash the potential of digital and smart development to give the Asia-Pacific region a fresh edge in innovation-driven development. Secondly, Xi called on Asia Pacific economies to stay committed to green and low-carbon development to build a new paradigm for sustainable development in the Asia Pacific region. Thirdly, he called for building an inclusive and universally beneficial future to foster a new dynamism in the inclusive growth of the Asia Pacific.
