Storyline: China reshapes energy landscape through green transformation over past 5 years [Voice_over] Over the course of China's 14th Five-Year Plan, which ended this year, the country has significantly accelerated its transformation to green energy and fundamentally changed the way it makes and consumes energy. Roughly one-third of China's total electricity consumption is met by wind, solar and hydropower energy, a large portion of which is created in the country's vast desert regions in the west. Over the past five years, the cumulative grid-connected capacity of wind and solar power in central and western parts of China has tripled, with the regions now getting 20 percent of their electricity needs from clean energy. Moving the green energy created in the west to the country's urban eastern regions required the construction of 19 ultra-high voltage power lines. The country also focused on new energy storage with the current capacity at about 95 million kilowatts. Officials say China has successfully reached its goal of increasing clean energy consumption to 20 percent, as set in the 14th Five-Year Plan. [Restrictions: No access Chinese mainland]
