Tourists rescued from sinking boat in storm in southern Thailand
This is the dramatic moment four tourists were rescued from a capsized boat in southern Thailand.
The Indian holidaymakers were returning from Koh Poda island when strong waves struck their longtail boat off Ao Nang Beach in Krabi.
Several tour boats in the area spotted the accident on Thursday and rushed to help.
Footage shows the tourists, a Thai tour guide, and a boat operator, clinging onto the overturned vessel as crew from other boats pulled them to safety.
No injuries were reported, and the capsized boat was later towed back to shore.
Weerayut Samankul, the owner of one of the rescue boats, said the incident occurred at around 2 pm local time.
He said: ‘We were taking a group of tourists to a destination when I saw the long-tailed boat flipped over and floating in the sea.
‘We quickly rescued four victims, including two Indian tourists, a guide, and a boat operator.
‘Guide Ruj, Captain Mud, and Captain Nee jumped into the water and swam against the heavy current, successfully rescuing them without any injury.
‘After that, we dropped them off at Thale Waek because there was a boat from the same company there.'
The Thai Meteorological Department on Thursday warned of waves up to 10 feet high in the Andaman Sea. The agency advised caution when sailing through stormy areas, while small boats were urged to stay ashore until November 7.
