On 9 November, near the Poyang Lake service area in Jiujiang, Jiangxi Province, a wind turbine blade suddenly snapped and crashed to the ground, scattering a large amount of debris and fragments. Some lightweight fibreglass pieces were carried by the wind into surrounding areas.

Eyewitnesses reported seeing clouds of fibreglass particles drifting through the air and said they quickly drove away out of concern for their safety.

According to reports, wind turbine blades are primarily made from fibreglass-reinforced resin composite materials. The airborne debris could be inhaled by humans, and long-term exposure may cause irreversible damage, such as pulmonary fibrosis.

A staff member from China Power Investment New Energy Power Co., Ltd. in Jiangxi confirmed that the incident is under investigation, and the cause of the blade failure is still being determined.

When asked about potential health risks for nearby residents from inhaling fibreglass particles, the staff member said, “That’s a matter for the next stage - right now, our priority is handling the on-site situation. Related issues will be addressed later.” They added that no reports of health issues had been received so far but advised, “If anyone experiences physical discomfort possibly caused by fibreglass inhalation, they should seek medical attention immediately and keep relevant evidence.”
