US: Rope Rescue Airlifts Woman From 200 Foot Mountain Drop Near Big Bear Lake
Big Bear Lake, United States - November 11, 2025 Video posted by San Bernardino County Fire on X shows firefighters responding on Highway 18 near mile marker 39 after a vehicle went over the side of a mountain, coming to rest about 200 feet down a steep, rocky slope. The footage captures crews from San Bernardino County Fire and Big Bear Fire Department preparing on the roadside before descending the rugged terrain to reach the severely damaged vehicle. Firefighters wearing safety gear carefully make their way down the mountainside to contact the solo female adult patient. According to the accompanying updates, a technical rope rescue system was set up and used to haul the patient from the mountainside up to a waiting ambulance on the highway. From there, she was transported to a helicopter landing zone at Snow Valley and airlifted by air ambulance to a regional trauma center. The video underscores the complex conditions of the scene and the specialized skills required to complete the rescue.
