Storyline: Trade in goods between Guangzhou, capital of south China's Guangdong Province, and Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) partner countries reached 479.61 billion yuan (about 67.48 billion U.S. dollars) in the first 10 months of the year, up 24.1 percent year on year, according to customs data. The BRI cooperation surge, a payback of Guangzhou's market diversification endeavors, drove up the city's overall foreign trade from January to October to a record 1.02 trillion yuan (about 143.5 billion U.S. dollars). "In the first 10 months of the year, Guangzhou's total foreign trade volume reached 1.02 trillion yuan. Exports rose by 20.5 percent year on year to 682.36 billion yuan (about 96 billion U.S. dollars), the highest growth among all major foreign trade cities in China. Guangzhou's foreign trade within the first 10 months of a year has exceeded the 1-trillion-yuan mark for the first time in history, demonstrating strong development resilience," said Zhang Baoshan, a customs officer. Guangzhou attributes the trade growth to policies aimed at stabilizing foreign trade and streamlining customs clearance, which boosted exports of key products and drove strong performance among local private trading firms during the period. To further support these enterprises in expanding overseas, Guangzhou Customs established a training base to help private firms apply for Authorized Economic Operator (AEO) certification, granting them faster customs procedures and reduced international trade costs. As a result, private enterprises in Guangzhou exported goods worth 444.87 billion yuan (about 62.59 billion U.S. dollars) in the first 10 months, marking a 27.3-percent year-on-year increase.
