5. (SOUNDBITE) (Arabic) DISPLACED MAN FADL MUHADDIN AWAD AZZAM SAYING:
“My name is Fadl al-Muhaddin Awad Azzam from the Zaytoun neighborhood. When the war started, we spent nearly a month under constant bombardment and shelling. When we fled to the shelter area, we couldn’t take anything with us.
They told us these were tents, but they are nothing more than thin sheets. The tent collapsed with the slightest wind, and all our belongings were destroyed, clothes, blankets, mattresses, even the refrigerator and washing machine. We left with absolutely nothing and have been displaced for months.
They said our house was destroyed, and truly, it was gone. My eldest son died before this, and then his mother passed away too. What can we do? A person builds a life with effort and care, and suddenly it is all gone. What can we describe? Even five fingers are not the same, nothing is left for us.“

7. (SOUNDBITE) (Arabic) DISPLACED WOMAN ISLAM SHABAN SAYING:
“I am a resident of the Salam area, Shaban. Today I am in the Zaytoun neighborhood, east of Gaza City, in the southeast of the Gaza Strip. We are suffering from many things; we are not living, we are merely enduring. Now it is winter, and even if we were in our own homes, we would be flooded and closing the windows to stop the water. Those homes at least had walls. Here, we are living under what is not even a tent; it is just pieces of cloth stitched together and called a tent.
When we arrived in Zaytoun, the area was completely destroyed. It is simply uninhabitable. We received a tent on Thursday, and by Saturday, just two days later, the rain had already brought it down. The water leaked straight through, and even the ground beneath us turned to mud. The wind kept ripping the tent apart, and we spent the whole night trying to stop the water from pouring in.
There are also major problems in the camp. There are hardly any toilets. A father with daughters cannot take care of them properly because there is no privacy, no place to build even a small bathroom. Those who had tarps have seen them dissolve over the past two years. Those who had a tent have watched it tear apart. With every storm, the wind lifts our tents off the ground.
We are still here because we have nowhere else to go. There is no house, no shelter, no wall to protect us. I can hear the bombardment all the way at the far end of the border. Besides the cold, the fear is constant. I am afraid for my siblings, for my husband, for my son.”

10. CHILD SITTING UNDER LAUNDRY (TWO SHOTS) GAZA, PALESTINE - NOV. 18, 2025: Displaced Palestinians living in a makeshift tent camp in Gaza City’s Zaytoun neighborhood are struggling to cope with widespread destruction and worsening winter conditions.
One of the largest neighborhoods in northern Gaza, Zaytoun was left in ruins following Israeli attacks before the military withdrawal, forcing hundreds of families to take shelter in flimsy tents near the coast.
As winter approaches, the thin fabric structures provide little protection from rain and storms.
One of the displaced residents, Fadl al-Muhaddin Awad Azzam, told that they spent a month under bombardment and were forced to leave without taking anything with them.
He added that the tent they had been given did not even protect them from the rain.
Another camp resident, a young woman said when they arrived in Zaytoun, the area was completely destroyed.
"It is simply uninhabitable. We received a tent on Thursday, and by Saturday, just two days later, the rain had already brought it down. The water leaked straight through, and even the ground beneath us turned to mud. The wind kept ripping the tent apart, and we spent the whole night trying to stop the water from pouring in," she said.
Authorities say Israel is violating the humanitarian protocol of the ceasefire agreement reached last month by blocking the entry of shelter materials such as tents and mobile homes.
Phase one of the ceasefire deal, based on US President Donald Trump's 20-point plan, includes the release of Israeli hostages in exchange for Palestinian prisoners. The plan also envisages the rebuilding of Gaza and the establishment of a new governing mechanism without Hamas.
Israel has killed more than 69,000 people, mostly women and children, in Gaza since October 2023 and reduced it to rubble.
