China: Chinese excavator makers digging deep in global markets
Storyline: Chinese excavator makers digging deep in global markets [Voice_over] In central China's Hunan Province, a major hub for construction machinery production, excavator manufacturers are working hard to meet robust global demand, with exports becoming their key growth driver. An excavator manufacturer in Changsha City has seen a significant increase in orders since the second half of the year. To keep up with demand, they produce one machine every six minutes on average. [Sound_bite] Wu Daxin, assistant to general manager, excavator manufacturer: "We produce over 100 machines daily, and they are shipped out almost as soon as they are finished. We're currently in a situation of demand outstripping supply, and our output has already surpassed that of the entire last year." [Voice_over] Wu says the growth is largely driven by their overseas expansion. Exports now make up over 70 percent of their total sales, with strong revenue in both emerging markets like those in Southeast Asia and Africa as well as in developed regions like countries in Europe and the U.S. [Sound_bite] Wu Daxin, assistant to general manager, excavator manufacturer: "Our overall sales in the third quarter grew more than 50 percent from a year earlier, an increase driven primarily by overseas demand." [Voice_over] According to the China Construction Machinery Association, in the first nine months of the year, China exported nearly 85,000 excavators, marking an increase of roughly 15 percent year on year.
