Firemen rescue eagle trapped 70ft up tree in British Columbia
A group of firemen rescued an eagle trapped 70ft up a tree in British Columbia.
Squamish Fire Rescue crew saved the hapless bald eagle that appeared to have its body impaled on the tree branch in Brackendale on Sunday, November 23.
Footage shows two officials in reflective vests on a ladder carefully placing the motionless bird into a pole net before climbing down to safety.
The eagle was then transported to the OWL Rehab Facility for medical treatment.
OWL raptor care supervisor, Martina Versteeg, said: 'The bird's tendons were exposed, and we had to suture him back together. He is receiving pain and swelling relief as well as antibiotics. Luckily, he did not suffer any broken bones, but the trauma is quite a lot.'
Thousands of Bald Eagles migrate to Brackendale from November to late January, aligning with the late-fall and winter salmon spawn in the Squamish River and its tributaries.
Brackendale has been designated as an Eagle Reserve, being recognised for the environmental importance of this winter gathering site.
