A container ship was struck by a storm before capsizing off the coast of Indonesia.

Fishermen discovered the ship, carrying hundreds of containers and tanks, drifting in the waters between Pandang Island and Salah Nama Island in Tanjung Tiram District, Batu Bara Regency, on Tuesday.

Local media reported that the vessel, which was transporting tanks of glycerin oil, had been struck by powerful waves that caused it to capsize.

Footage shows the watercraft heavily tilted on its side, with dozens of containers reportedly torn loose and swept into the sea.

Local anglers believe the ship suffered a major leak after being hit by the storm. They alerted officials to the incident, prompting a response from maritime agencies.

There were no immediate reports of casualties, and officials are continuing to assess the environmental impact.

An investigation is ongoing.
