UNCAPTIONED: Malaysia to Resume Search for Missing MH370 on December 30
Malaysia to Resume Search for Missing MH370 on December 30. Malaysia has announced that the search for missing Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 will restart on December 30, more than ten years after the aircraft disappeared without a trace. The Boeing 777 vanished in 2014 while flying from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing with 239 people on board, marking one of aviation’s most enduring mysteries. Exploration firm Ocean Infinity will conduct a new 55-day seabed search in the southern Indian Ocean, after its previous attempt was halted in April due to severe weather. Malaysia’s transport ministry said the renewed effort will focus on a targeted area considered to have the highest likelihood of containing the wreckage. Under an existing agreement, Malaysia will pay Ocean Infinity $70 million only if significant wreckage is found. Despite years of investigations and debris found along African coastlines and Indian Ocean islands, the main crash site has never been located. A 2018 investigation suggested the plane’s controls were likely deliberately diverted, but stopped short of identifying a culprit and could not determine what happened. Most of the passengers were Chinese nationals, alongside travellers from Malaysia, France, Australia, Indonesia, India, the U.S., Ukraine and Canada. Families of those onboard continue to pursue compensation from Malaysia Airlines, Boeing, Rolls-Royce and insurance firms.
