Small bird dives and catches fish underwater with frightening precision
On December 2, 2025, in the Four Girls Mountain area of Aba, Sichuan, Mr. Meng captured footage of a bird diving underwater to catch fish.
The video shows the bird catching fish with a rhythmic movement. It swims into the water to catch fish, demonstrating superb fishing skills with near "perfect accuracy".
Mr. Meng, the videographer, said that he later learned that the bird was a dipper. Everyone who witnessed the scene exclaimed in amazement, as it is rare to see a bird that can both dive and accurately catch fish.
Dippers feed on small fish, shrimp, aquatic insects, and other creatures in the water. To obtain food, they have evolved the ability to dive and hunt, capturing prey underwater to meet their energy needs for survival and reproduction.
Their feathers are highly waterproof, allowing them to stay dry and maintain buoyancy in the water. Their bones, muscles, and other features are also adapted to underwater activities, enabling them to swim and dive agilely.
