The video — filmed in Yokohama from the 10th‑floor of an apartment — shows a kitchen lamp swinging violently and a TV flash an emergency alert, as the building rocks during a massive earthquake. Though Yokohama is more than 600 miles from the epicenter off Aomori, the tremor’s intensity is clearly felt upward through the building’s seismic‑isolation system — amplifying the swaying and creating a dramatic, unsettling effect.

Late evening on December 8, 2025, a magnitude 7.6 quake struck off the east coast of Aomori Prefecture.
The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) issued tsunami warnings for the coastal prefectures of Aomori, Iwate and Hokkaido — warning that waves up to 3 metres could hit.
While the main threat — tsunami — targets the northeast coast, the video underscores how far the quake’s reach extends, shaking homes and sparking fear even in distant cities like Yokohama.
