Heavy snowfall caused widespread flight delays at an airport in Japan.

Footage taken from inside a plane shows a snow-covered tarmac at New Chitose Airport in Hokkaido on December 12.

The filmer said: 'Flight in the heaviest snowfall ever. The sound of the raging blizzard can be heard inside the cabin, too.

'Visibility is zero. Delayed by three hours and still doesn't look like it's going to take off anytime soon.'

Authorities reported that at least 60 flights to and from New Chitose Airport were cancelled on Sunday due to the severe weather affecting Hokkaido.

The blizzard also caused power outages in several areas of the region.
