Riot police broke up a mass brawl among teenagers on a beach in Florida on Wednesday afternoon.

Emergency crews were first called to a nearby Woolworths store around 3 pm following reports of a disturbance.

Witnesses said the unruly group grabbed items from shelves and threw them along the aisles.

Staff and shoppers were quickly overwhelmed, forcing the store to go into lockdown shortly after 4 pm.

Police reported that the crowd, estimated at over 200 teenagers, then moved to Mordialloc Beach, prompting riot units to intervene and disperse them.

Footage shows the beach crowded with teens running along the shoreline while tourists look on in shock.

Authorities confirmed no injuries were reported, and no weapons were found during the incident.

A police spokesman said: 'A large number of police responded rapidly and located the large group of teens who had left the supermarket and become involved in a brawl at Mordialloc Pier.

'Officers began dispersing the hostile crowd, who began throwing bottles at members. Public Order Response Team members were deployed to the scene and the majority of the crowd left the area.'

One teenage boy was arrested at the scene for affray and assaulting police. Officials also stated that no Woolworths staff or shoppers were hurt during the supermarket incident.

An investigation is ongoing.
