A motor ferry sprang a leak and capsized in an Indonesian strait.

Footage shows the Nusa Jaya ship being overwhelmed by the waters of the Sunda Strait on December 18.

Another clip shows the lower deck of the vessel submerged beneath the water.

Zonari, from PT Harta Karunia Sejati Salvage, who was on board, said: 'The leak was first reported by the owner on December 15 at around 5:45 am, and a survey of the vessel was carried out later that afternoon.

'The survey team was led by Roby, the head of salvage operations at our company.

'There were no casualties or injuries, as the boat was already out of service and awaiting sale under the bank's curator.'

The Nusa Jaya watercraft had previously operated on the Merak Port–Bakauheni route.
