US Pauses Offshore Wind Projects Over Security Fears. The United States has moved to immediately pause several offshore wind energy projects along the Atlantic coast, citing national security concerns. The Department of the Interior says five large-scale wind farms are affected, as officials review whether offshore turbines could interfere with military radar systems or pose other risks to densely populated East Coast cities. President Donald Trump has long criticized wind energy, calling it unreliable and expensive. Since returning to office, his administration has sought to halt offshore wind development altogether, with Interior Secretary Doug Burgum stating that wind power has no future in the US energy grid. Renewable energy companies and state leaders have reacted with concern, warning the pause could undermine clean energy goals and economic investment. According to the Interior Department, the review focuses on emerging security threats and the possibility that wind turbines could create radar “clutter,” masking real targets or generating false signals. The paused projects are located off the coasts of New York, Virginia, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Connecticut.
