Panic spread in a village in Uttar Pradesh’s Budaun district after a buffalo suspected to be infected with rabies died, triggering fears of possible exposure among villagers.
The incident was reported from Pipraula village under the Ujhani police station area. As a precaution, around 200 villagers rushed to the Ujhani Community Health Centre and were administered anti-rabies vaccines.
According to villagers, a community feast was organised on December 23, 2025, during a thirteenth-day death ritual, where raita was served. It later emerged that the milk used to prepare the raita came from a buffalo that had reportedly been bitten by a dog a few days earlier. The milk from this buffalo was allegedly mixed with milk from other buffaloes before being used.
The buffalo died on December 26, raising fears of a potential health risk. Following the news, anxiety gripped the village, prompting residents to seek medical advice and vaccination. Those vaccinated included men, women, and children.
Health department officials briefed villagers about the situation and carried out precautionary vaccinations. Authorities said the situation is currently under control, and normalcy has returned to the village.
