China: China makes solid progress in rural modernization in 2025
Storyline China makes solid progress in rural modernization in 2025 As it closes out 2025, China is assessing its progress in rural modernization and revitalization with several stand-out achievements in agriculture, infrastructure and quality of life. China's agriculture modernization included subsidies for farmland protection, new machinery, agricultural services and insurance premiums. The country also launched a new plan to build high-standard farmland. Cheng Guoqiang, director, National Food Security Strategy Research Institute, Renmin University of China: "China's agriculture and rural development have shown notable new trends. Technology has played a big role in supporting farm production, the integration of primary, secondary and tertiary industries grew deeper, and the urban-rural integration has entered a new stage. All together, they have laid a solid foundation for Chinese modernization." Besides rural agricultural achievements, the country has advanced its rural infrastructure with 5G access in more than 90 percent of villages, and piped water in roughly 96 percent of the country's rural areas. China has also made strides in improving public services and living standards for rural areas including increasing the availability of education, healthcare and elderly care services. Almost 2,200 counties have launched integrated medical networks, with more than 95 percent of village clinics now covered by medical insurance. And the country's rural tourism has flourished this year. City dwellers have been booking themed tour packages and customized catering services in rural enclaves, creating extra income for the people who live there year-round.
