Storyline China accelerates agriculture modernization drive with widespread tech adoption From orchards to pastures to ponds, agricultural networks in China have been rapidly modernizing over the past five years with digital innovation and smart technologies. In east China's Fujian Province, automated rail carts and heavy-lift drones have replaced manual labor in harvesting some 6,600 hectares of citrus fruit, which has significantly boosted productivity. On the grasslands in north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, herders can monitor their cattle's health and activity levels in real time with smart animal collars that are connected to the herders' smartphones. And at a fishery in east China's Jiangsu Province, remote water-quality tracking and precision feeding are expected to increase shrimp yields by around 20 percent while also improving their quality. Since the start of the 14th Five Year Plan in 2021, the country has launched 116 national smart agriculture demonstration projects and has promoted more than 30 key agricultural technologies with a 95 percent adoption rate.
