2. KADIR ALI DEMIR, PRESIDENT OF THE ISLAMIC COMMUNITY MILLI GORUS EASTERN FRANCE REGION, SPEAKING TO CAMERA (Turkish) STRASBOURG, FRANCE - JAN. 8, 2026: Around 50,000 euros ($54,000) has been donated in about two weeks to support the Eyup Sultan Mosque in the eastern French city of Strasbourg after it became the target of anti-Muslim and racist rhetoric.

The fundraising effort began in late December following a controversial video posted by Marion Maréchal, a far-right member of the European Parliament.

In the video, filmed on Nov. 30 and shared on the social media platform X, Marechal stood before the mosque’s construction site and alleged that the organization behind the project promotes an interpretation of Islam "hostile" to French and European values.

After the video circulated, residents and civil society groups voiced opposition to Islamophobic and racist remarks.
