ORDU, TÜRKİYE - JAN. 13: A construction company in Türkiye's northern Ordu province has installed a specially designed "construction site viewing window" to accommodate the widespread public interest in watching heavy machinery at work, reflecting what many describe as a uniquely Turkish pastime.
The contracting company working on a project in Yeni Mahalle, Altinordu district, fitted a section of the construction site's security barrier with a television-shaped window specifically labeled for curious onlookers.
"A television-shaped gap has been made to satisfy citizens' curiosity. I think it's nice for curious citizens," said Omer Topaloglu, a local resident.
Ahmet Set, another observer, praised the practical approach: "Instead of people struggling to look from somewhere else, they can look from here. It's very well thought out."
The fascination with construction machinery has become so prevalent across Türkiye that locals often refer to it jokingly as the country's "national sport.",
Urban residents frequently stop to observe excavators, cranes, and other heavy equipment, particularly during major infrastructure projects such as metro construction or bridge installations.
Videos of construction work regularly accumulate thousands of views on social media platforms, while scale model collecting and machinery repair remain popular hobbies among enthusiasts.
The installation of viewing windows in construction barriers has become increasingly common across Türkiye, demonstrating how contractors have adapted to this widespread public interest while maintaining safety protocols.
