BOMBING FALLING NEAR STEPAN BANDERA MONUMENT, FLAMES RISING LVIV, UKRAINE (RELEASED ON JAN. 15, 2026) (USER MUST CREDIT “LVIV MAYOR ANDRIY SADOVYI” – FOR EDITORIAL USE ONLY) - A Russian drone struck a children's playground near the Stepan Bandera Monument in the western Ukrainian city of Lviv on Thursday, causing damage to surrounding buildings but no serious casualties, local officials said.

Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovyi confirmed the attack on social media, describing the targeted area as a "symbolic place" that "the aggressor fears most."

"An enemy drone fell on a children's playground near the Bandera monument," Sadovyi said in his statement. "Preliminary reports indicate there were no casualties."

The mayor added that the blast wave slightly affected a tractor driver who was clearing snow at the time of the strike, but confirmed the individual is in stable condition.

The explosion shattered windows in nearby buildings, including a polytechnic facility and residential houses, according to the mayor's account.

The Stepan Bandera Monument commemorates the controversial Ukrainian nationalist leader, a figure celebrated by some Ukrainians for resisting Soviet rule but criticized by others for his organization's wartime activities.
