This is the shocking moment a traffic police officer was attacked by an allegedly drug-addled suspect in Thailand.

Police Captain Pairat Pamjamnak of Sam Rong Tai Police Station was directing traffic when the suspect Golf Bangduan, 29, charged at him on the street in Samut Prakan on the edge of Bangkok.

CCTV footage shows Pairat talking to two electricians before swinging around to stop the rampaging man with a kick. The pair were seen grappling each other before the electricians restrained Golf.

The alleged attacker was then dragged to the police station.

Police said he was disoriented, claiming he 'could not remember' why he launched the unprovoked assault. He also apologised adding he had no grudges against the traffic enforcer.

A police spokesman said: 'During questioning, the suspect spoke incoherently, matching what the locals said, that he was a mentally unstable man living in the alley where the attack happened. As a result, Police Captain Pairat has declined to press charges.'

Golf also allegedly admitted that he had previously taken illegal drugs, though he could not remember when. He was taken to a hospital for treatment.
