A Russian tourist who attacked locals during a naked rampage was arrested by police in Thailand's semi-barbarous Sin City.

Crazed holidaymaker Egor Mishenkov, 23, shocked passersby as he walked stark naked while babbling gibberish on the streets of the notorious coastal city of Pattaya on Tuesday evening.

The Russian - one of many arriving in the country to flee war at home - was seen walking toward a couple riding a scooter, then punching the male driver in the face, knocking him over.

Shocked onlookers reported the assault to the police.

Police Captain Navin Sinthurat, superintendent of the district's Bang Lamung Police Station, said officers found the rampaging tourist in the Soi Naklua 16 area.

The officer said: 'We tried to negotiate with him, but he was uncooperative and displayed aggressive behaviour by shouting, punching and spitting at the law enforcers.'

Police said it took around 10 minutes to subdue the hulking tourist, who had injured one officer during the arrest. He was hauled onto the back of a police truck and taken to the Bang Lamung Hospital for a check-up.

Police Captain Navin Sinthurat added: 'We suspect the tourist was so drunk he could not control himself. He will need to pay a fine and compensate anyone he hurt.'

Authorities said they were waiting for a medical report to determine if drugs contributed to the outburst. They added they were coordinating with the Immigration Bureau to carry out interrogations and legal procedures.

The incident occurred just north of the city's intoxicating red light strips, which have seen the coastal resort spawn into a semi-barbarous sex-tourism hellscape.

Embarrassed officials have made some progress in gentrifying the region with family tourism projects but a ravenous nightlife industry and corrupt police have hampered their efforts, with undesirables from all nations still attracted to the seedy city.
