A dramatic video has emerged from China of a three-year-old toddler being rescued by firemen from a manhole in the county of Shandong Province on Monday, 29 December.

Firefighters had to climb upside-down into the narrow hole to get to the the boy. He was reportedly stuck six metres down the 20-metre-deep pipe but rescuers were able to grab his arms and get him out.

According to local reports the boy fell into the uncovered manhole while playing around. He escaped injury thanks to the protection of his thick down jacket - but locals say the manhole has been a danger for some time without a cover or warning signs.
