A woman enjoyed a relaxing 'moxibustion' alternative therapy treatment at clinic in Bangkok.

Footage shows the customer lying on the massage bed while a therapist put ginger with mugwort plant on her back in the Thai capital.

The crushed dried herb or moxa was lit until it turned black. The practice is believed to activate blood flow and improve overall health.

Chinese medicine doctor Pattarapha Saejiang said: ‘Moxibustion burns mugwort leaves and other herbs on different parts of the body to stimulate blood flow and stimulate the body meridian, which would then improve the functioning of each organ.

‘During the treatment, the patients would feel the warmth in the area where the moxibustion is done. The same treatment is also used to loosen the muscles of patients with office syndrome.'

Moxibustion involves burning moxa, a dried plant material made from the mugwort plant. It is derived from the Japanese word 'mogusa,' which means 'mugwort fluff.' It is believed to treat various conditions, including pain, inflammation, digestive problems, and gynaecological disorders.
