Man accidentally snaps giant flower grass spear
While setting up a standing wave in the grass flower spear of an Australian Native Grass Plant, Jacob accidentally causes the top to snap off.
Jacob first gently oscillates the base of the grass spear at its natural resonance. Unfortunately the amplitude of motion becomes too large at the top of the flower, and it snaps off.
Jacob regrets breaking the plant, but finds solace in the notion that the plant will shoot a new flowering spear next year.
Australian aborigines use the grass spear as a source of nutrients as the hundreds of tiny flowers packed along the surface of the spear contain a lot of nectar.
These plants are oftern many years old and survive bushfires incredibly well.
Jacob has a popular YouTube channnel 'Make Science Fun' and is well known for his creative Science and Engineering based videos.
