Today was a very special day at Bristol Airport, with the commencement of Thomson Airways' service from Bristol to Cancun - the first transatlantic flight from Bristol since the days of Continental some 7 years ago.

This video shows the inaugural passenger service from Bristol Airport (BRS/EGGD), UK to Cancun (CUN/MMUN), Mexico. The aircraft arrived empty from Newcastle at 08:15am, and was on the ground for an hour and a quarter - being fuelled, catered, cleaned and loaded, before it was ready for the very first flight from BRS to CUN. It then pushes back from Stand 26 (recently widened to accommodate the 787), taxies out to runway 09, and takes off on the BCN1Z (Brecon 1Z) departure.

This is not the first time the 787 has been to Bristol, in April 2016 it arrived for some press related events to celebrate the announcement of the new long-haul routes direct to Cancun and Orlando. But today marked the beginning of the passenger service, taking a load of passengers across the Atlantic to Mexico. The Orlando route commences tomorrow (7th May 2017).

So a very exciting day for all - the airport, local spotters, and passengers that fly from Bristol that will now be able to fly direct from Bristol to the other side of the pond.
