STORM ELEANOR at BRISTOL Airport - Windy Landings, Go Arounds & Divert

Buy video

Storm Eleanor hit the UK on the 2nd January 2018 - winds of up to 90mph were forecast, with the worst areas affected being Northern Ireland, Northern England and South-West Scotland. Despite not being in direct path of the storm, Bristol and the South West of England was still hit with some strong winds. With that in mind, I headed up to Bristol Airport to catch some landings in the gusty conditions.

This video shows you how it all unfolded at Bristol Airport on the evening the storm hit. The clips were filmed from about 21:20 until 22:50 from Winters Lane. 3 aircraft went around, and one diverted to Cardiff. I didn't manage to film the go-arounds because they were during heavy rainfall and the visibility dropped significantly. But I've included various FlightRadar24 screenshots as well as ATC communcations so look and listen out for that.

Also listen at 6:55, the pilot jokes "he needs a few days off after that", I don't blame him!
