Penguins watching a wet landing by passengers from a Zodiac at Brown Bluff, Antarctic Peninsula
The Antarctic Peninsula is a mecca for people interested in wildlife and spectacular polar scenery and is the most accessible part of Antarctica. The Peninsula is mostly visited in summer by polar tourists travelling by ship, in this case One Ocean Expeditions on the Akademik Ioffe in November 2015.
The Antarctic Peninsula supports smaller rookeries of penguins than South Georgia and other subantarctic islands, but some new species occur there particularly Adélie
and Chinstrap Penguins as well as Gentoo Penguins that also occur elsewhere. These little penguins are not afraid of humans so it is easy to observe their behaviour closely. One of the most-visited sites is Brown Bluff. These passengers are disembarking from a Zodiac onto the beach at Brown Bluff before moving off to see the wonderful wildlife while Adélie and Gentoo Penguins calmly look on.
