This bungling bus driver was caught relaxing at the wheel using his FEET to steer the coach full of passengers.

Nguyen Duy Hieu, 37, was driving the vehicle packed with dozens of people on a motorway in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, on June 27, when he decided to lounge back.

A passing motorist spotted the driver's reckless behaviour and filmed him - before bosses at the travel company later saw the video online.

Nguyen was summoned for a dressing down and complained to bosses that he was tired because he had been driving on a long route.

He added: ''Many drivers who have to sit for a long time get numb legs and cramps so we have to put our legs up on the wheel to stretch them.''

Despite the explanation, bosses fined Nguyen Duy Hieu 7.5 millionVND (250GBP) and he had his license suspended for three months. They said the incident happened on the Trung Luong Expressway.

Ha Van Khoi, manager of the Tuan Hiep Hiep Hiep travel company, said the driver had been working for the company for five years.

He added: ''As soon as we heard about this incident we asked the driver to return to the office. We have temporarily suspended the driver's job and reported the incident to the Department of Transport.''
